Miter Saw / December 3, 2018 / Tina Abrahamsson.
The greatest benefit of having a miter saw is that you can finish your work quickly and spend more quality time with your family. A miter saw (also called as mitre saw and less commonly miter box) is a mechanical tool used for making accurate crosscuts and miters in a workpiece. There are two types of miter saws commonly found. These are manual miter saw and a motorized miter saw. The first miter saw ever made in the world was a manual miter saw. It is a saw having replaceable blades suspended on rollers in a metal guide which allows making of accurate crosscuts and miter cuts. These are more commonly used in picture framing but have now been replaced by its power operated counterpart. The manual miter saw is also the sliding miter saw. The motorized miter saw which is operated on power is also called as chop saw or drop saw. It is a power operated tool that is used to make quick accurate crosscuts in a work piece. This power tool is commonly used in framing operations and cutting of molding.
Blade changes are generally pretty simple so dont avoid blade switching out of inconvenience. Using an improper blade can cost you much more in the long run than a few short minutes to pop on a new blade: when cutting to achieve a cleaner more precise cut use a blade with more teeth for a quicker more rough cut use a blade with fewer teeth when crosscutting be sure to use a crosscut blade and so forth. Blade Changes: To change your blade you first need to remove the guard and pivot the blade mount cover or access plate away from the blade and remove the center nut.
Before mounting the fence or fences to the miter saw table top draw a pencil or chalk line where the front of the fence is to be positioned. Take a long straightedge lay it flat on the miter saws metal table and push one edge of it long the miter saws metal fence. Keeping it in this position draw a pencil line along the table top out as far as possible. Repeat on the opposite side of the saw if you have tables on both sides of the saw. Extend this pencil line as far as possible. Place the fence along the pencil line with the end of the wooden fence almost touching the end of miter saws metal fence. (Leave a 1/16" gap between the wooden fence and the metal fence.) Drill appropriately sized holes for the lag screws through the table top and into the 2x4 joist underneath the table top (one for each slot).
Molding is used to cover transitions between surfaces. Aside from that molding is also used to decorate surfaces. In the old days carpenters struggle in cutting many pieces of moldings. Sweating from cutting moldings can be avoided with the help of a power miter saw. Portability: Aside from helping woodworkers and carpenters work faster and make accurate cuts a power miter saw has other advantages. For one thing a miter saw is designed to be portable. Portability is an excellent feature if you are doing carpentry or woodworking jobs in various places. The Benefit of Working Fast: Woodworking and carpentry are enjoyable occupations and hobbies. In the old days wives complain that their husbands were not allotting much time talking with them and kids grumble that their dads were not attending their Sunday baseball or football games. Daddies are simply spending too much time in the workshop. Of course that is before the advent of power tools like miter saws. Well your family is much important than your work or hobby. As much as possible you should spend time talking and having fun with your family. And that is what you will get if you have a miter saw.
