The saw must be mounted in this gap so that the top of the miter saw table is flush with the top of the saw table. The miter handle must be free to move its full travel in both directions left to right. Anticipate the need for this gap as you are framing the underside of your miter saw table because you will need to construct a shelf underneath to support the weight of the miter saw. You might want to make this shelf adjustable in micro increments so that you can get the top of the saw platform exactly flush to the top of the saw table. You can do this with lag screws with washers in sliding slots through the shelf sub-structure and into the table framing. Slightly loosen the lags and tap the table up or down with a rubber hammer before tightening the lags fully.
The standard miter has a blade pivot from right to left to cut miters; this standard saw is however becoming less popular as compound miters have more applications and are only slightly more expensive. Compound miters have the ability to bevel cut or tip the blade to either the left or right side (0° - 50°). Some can bevel in both directions allowing operators to miter and bevel within the same cut (-50° through 50°). Lastly a sliding miter saw is just like a compound miter but with extension rods that allow the saw blade and motor to move forward and back. This motion increases the blade cut capacity enabling the cut length to be longer than the blade diameter.
I. Compound Miter Saws On a compound miter saw the blade moves in three general directions. First the blade moves up and down in a chopping motion. Second the blade moves about 45-degrees to the left and right for miter cuts and lastly the blade will lean either to the left or to the left and right to perform bevel and double bevel cuts. Although compound miter saws are typically more portable and less expensive than sliding compound miter saws they also have less capacity for wider boards. Most often a compound miter saw will be unable to through-cut a wide board with a single pass. II. Sliding Compound Miter Saws A sliding compound miter saw does all of the things a compound miter saw does while also adding a few more things to the pot.

These are manual miter saw and a motorized miter saw. The first miter saw ever made in the world was a manual miter saw. It is a saw having replaceable blades suspended on rollers in a metal guide which allows making of accurate crosscuts and miter cuts. These are more commonly used in picture framing but have now been replaced by its power operated counterpart. The manual miter saw is also the sliding miter saw. The motorized miter saw which is operated on power is also called as chop saw or drop saw. It is a power operated tool that is used to make quick accurate crosscuts in a work piece. This power tool is commonly used in framing operations and cutting of molding.
